VISITOR VISAS
The Australian Government allows genuine visitors to come
to Australia on a temporary visa. These visas can last anywhere
from 1 week to 12 months. The visa applicant must satisfy
DIAC that their visit is genuine, that they will abide by
their visa conditions and Australian laws.
The different types of Visitor visas are:
Tourist Visas – For applicants who would like to come
to Australia to visit relatives or for tourism purposes.
This visa allows applicants to stay in Australia for up
to 12 months. Applicant must:
o Provide evidence that he or she is a genuine visitor;
and
o Provide evidence that he or she has access to adequate
financial resources to come to Australia as a tourist. This
includes travel finances, accommodation and every day expenses
whilst visiting Australia.
Sponsored family visitor visas – This visa is for those
who would like to come to Australia to visit a close relative.
This visa allows applicants to stay in Australia for up
to 12 months. Applicant must:
o Be sponsored by an eligible relative that is a settled
Australian citizen or settled Australian permanent resident;
o Provide evidence that he or she is a genuine visitor;
o Provide evidence that he or she has access to adequate
financial resources to come to Australia as a tourist. This
includes travel finances, accommodation and every day expenses
whilst visiting Australia; and
o In some cases (when requested by DIAC) the Sponsor is
required to pay a Bond.
Medical Treatment Visas – For applicants who would like
to come to Australia for Medical treatment or a related
purpose. There are two different types of Medical Treatment
Visa and the only real difference between them is the how
long the visa will allow an applicant to stay in Australia
for. Applicants must satisfy DIAC that they:
o Are coming to Australia for the purposes of having Medical
Treatment or a related purpose;
o Provide evidence that he or she has access to adequate
financial resources for personal support during their stay;
and
o Their stay and treatment in Australia would not disadvantage
an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident.
